ICCROM Consultant wins Icon Conservation Award 7 December. On 1 December, the Institute of Conservation (Icon), United Kingdom, presented ICCROM Consultant Simon Lambert with the Student Conservator of the Year Award for his project on the carbon footprint of museum loans. This was carried out at Cardiff University as part of the MSc Care of Collections programme. The Carbon Footprint of Museum Loans project encourages conservators, registrars and other loan administrators to reduce the climate change impact of their operations while continuing to deliver social benefits through loans - without downsizing activities. The awards judging panel deemed this to be an innovative and extensive piece of work with wide benefits, an interdisciplinary project that will engage others outside the conservation community. A short description of the project can be found on the blog, Sustainable Museums. A full-length article on the results of the study is due to be published in the Journal of Museum Management and Curatorship in August 2011. ICCROM congratulates Simon for this well-deserved honour. |
